Ruth's Profile
Update January 2024
Most recently I've been performing in a staged reading of a new play about the architect and artist Inigo Jones - it was done in the Banqueting House in Whitehall which he designed, so it was a privilege to be there. I've also been recording another couple of books for Audible and performing in some audio drama for Lucy Worsley's 'Lady Killers' series which is now on BBC Sounds: Click Here
Update January 2022
Happily, I've been doing some lovely recording work recently, including some work for English Heritage - a soundtrack for one of their beautiful houses, Marble Hill House in Richmond.
I'm also delighted to have recorded a couple of short extracts of Mary Shelley's beautiful and haunting writing for The Sunday Feature on Radio 3 this week - 'In Search of the Sublime' - put together by the award-winning producer Victoria Ferran. It is now available to listen to on BBC iPlayer and as a podcast.
Happily, since we last worked together I've been doing some more nice recording and theatre work - most recently, I've been recording lots of poetry and short stories for Cambridge University Press over the Summer, and performing at Shakespeare's Globe in a project on Shakespeare and Commedia dell'Arte at the beautiful, candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.
Ruth recorded for us the narration for the Amy Johnson Museum, she matched the original very well.
Most recently I've been playing Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream for a Shakespeare in Performance project for Cambridge University. I've also been doing some more recording for Naxos - a Georgette Heyer novel and a lovely book for children about the Planets and the Stars. Both have had nice reviews which I include below:
'The Masqueraders is a ‘caper’ story of the very best sort. It’s stylish, witty and evokes the period brilliantly. Ruth Sillers performs with great gusto, making the most of over-the-top characters like the Old Gentleman, and bringing subtle nuances to the sensible and meditative Prudence and her ‘mountainous’ hero. Naxos has, so far, not put a foot wrong in the choice of narrators for their growing catalogue of Heyer audios, and I’m eagerly anticipating whatever is coming next.'

THE PLANETS AND THE SOLAR SYSTEM
Jen Green, Read by Ruth Sillers • Unabridged
Naxos AudioBooks
Listeners are treated to an impressive scope of space information--from details about each planet to an overview of space exploration and the scientists who have contributed to our understanding of the solar system. While one could listen to this recording straight through, it also merits listening to chapter by chapter. Ruth Sillers is an unobtrusive narrator who lets the information speak for itself and is clearly unbiased in her presentation of the space race. Her melodious voice, leisurely pacing, and distinctive elocution make for easy listening. Given Sillers's lively sense of wonder, the listener can't help but be impressed by the vastness of the universe and our newfound knowledge of it. A.R. © AudioFile, Portland, Maine

I've also been doing some more performances of an anthology I researched and recorded of women's writing in the First World War for independent producers Crimson Cats called 'War Girls'. If you click directly on the production company's website

you can hear extracts and listen to the BBC's Nicky Barranger talking to me about the project.

I also did a talk at Chawton House in June, originally the house of Jane Austen's brother and now an international library for women's writing with talks and events. I'm sending you a link to there as they did some publicity and interviewed me about the War Girls project and event we did which went very well. It's an absolutely stunning place and they kindly put me up as well, so it was a bit like being in a Jane Austen novel! Click here to discover more
