An award winning voice artist
Of English, Portuguese, Welsh, Irish and Australian descent, Terence grew up in the then Lourenço Marques, (now Maputo) in Moçambique. The family eventually moved to Blantyre in Malawi before moving countries yet again, this time to Johannesburg, South Africa, where he began a professional career which has seen him working as an award winning, freelance actor and musician in countries around the world. With a neutral English accent, his voice has been described as warm, intimate, authoratitive and clear. His many years working as an actor have provided a talent for charcterisation and comedy. He voice has been used in almost all media: radio, television, film ADR, documentaries for National Geographic, corporate work, AV promotions, station ID, animated series, and – more recently - the internet.
An honours graduate of the University of Witwatersrand school of drama, Terence began his acting career with the drama Tribute, for which he received a nomination as Best Newcomer. Since then he has worked in almost every available theatrical arena. His dramatic work includes As You Like It, Macbeth, Hapgood, Twilight of The Golds, Old Boys, for which he received a Best Actor nomination, followed by a further Best Actor nomination for the role of Biff in the highly acclaimed Bobby Heaney production of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman.
Musicals include numerous pantomimes, Hair and Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story, which both earned him nominations for Best Performance in a Musical. His musical career has also included performing in, and writing and arranging for cabaret - most notably during his years with Not The Midnight Mass, which garnered the After Dark Best Cabaret award before spending a season in London and Brighton.
As a film and television actor he has worked on, amongst others, An African Dream, The Long Run, The Sorcerers Apprentice, Critical Assignment, the television series Trucking, The Game II and The Game III - for which he received yet another Best Actor nomination. His performance in the mini-series, Homeland, Earned an Avanti award for Best Actor in a Dramatic Series for Television. In 2009/10 he played a number of roles for the Tiger Aspect animated series, Tinga Tinga Tales, featuring Lenny Henry and Miriam Margolyes. Originally broadcast on CBeebies and the Disney Junior channel, it is till being broadcast. During this period, he was also the voice for Sony Television’s DSTV Channel in Africa.
Apart from his work as an award winning voice artist, he has pursued a parallel career as a guitarist, singer and songwriter - playing, writing, singing for and fronting various bands before being approached in 2011 by the Dire Straits keboard player, Alan Clark, to be the frontman for The Straits – a band initated by Alan Clark and fellow Dire Straits members Chris White and Phil Palmer. Touring for over 3 years, the band played over 150 shows in more than 25 countries. He continues to work with Chris White in The Dire Straits Experience, having picked up where The Straits ended in late 2014.
